Simon Webbe, Gareth Gates, Leanne Jones and Taofique Folarin will star in Stiles & Drewe’s brand new family musical The Three Little Pigs at the Palace Theatre this summer.
Following the hugely successful musical theatre writing duo’s family hits including Honk! and Mary Poppins, The Three Little Pigs will play daytime performances from 5 August to 6 September.
Described as a “curly musical tail” for everyone aged three and older, Blue star Webbe will follow his West End debut in Sister Act to take on the villainous role of the Big Bad Wolf alongside fellow pop star-turned-actor Gates (Les Misérables) as his nemesis; a practical little porker with a knack for house building.
The poptastic pair are joined by two acclaimed musical theatre performers in the roles of the remaining two resourceful piglets; Olivier Award winner Jones, who triumphed for her starring role in Hairspray, and Folarin, whose credits include The Lion King, Fame and Avenue Q.
Stiles & Drewe’s musical take on the classic tale will feature plenty of fresh exciting twists, with families invited to discover how the piggies become world renowned celebrity superstars when forced to leave the warmth of their mother’s overcrowded sty. How will they cope without their adoring mother’s “hogs and kisses”? Will their DIY building skills cut the mustard? And will they be able to stand on their own four trotters and outwit the Big Bad Wolf?
Revealing more about the surprises in store, Stiles & Drewe said: “Most children will know the story of The Three Little Pigs, so our job has been to reinvent it in a theatrical way, with hummable, memorable songs that will appeal to the whole family. Our three little pigs – Bar who loves to exercise, Bee who is “green” to the core, and Q the insatiable bookworm – learn to work together as a team to defeat the Big Bad (but possibly misunderstood) Wolf.”
London audiences will have a chance to catch the piglets before they trot into the West End when they play a short run from 24 to 26 July at the Artsdepot in North Finchley.
During its West End run, the Palace Theatre’s current hit show The Commitments will continue to play regular performances alongside its new porky friends.
