David Walliams’s children’s story Mr Stink is to be staged in a scratch ‘n’ sniff production at Hackney Empire this June.
Published in 2009, Mr Stink is the second children’s book by actor, writer and Little Britain creator Walliams, who teamed up with renowned illustrator Quentin Blake to create the story of a smelly tramp who befriends Chloe, a young girl who isn’t as cool as the other kids at school. Her politician mother is trying to rid the streets of homeless people, so Chloe finds Mr Stink a secret hiding place. But there may be more to her new friend than meets the nose.
This new musical stage adaptation is directed by Matthew White (Sweet Charity in the West End) with music by Matt Brind, the musical director of Legally Blonde The Musical.
In a first for theatre, each audience member will be issued with a special scratch ‘n’ sniff booklet which they will be encouraged to put to smelly use at certain points during the show, bringing Mr Stink’s stink to odorous life.
Mr Stink premieres in Leicester before coming to Hackney Empire from 22 to 26 June, as part of a UK tour.
