The Fast Show’s Simon Day is to lead the cast of Dave Hanson’s off-Broadway hit Waiting For Waiting For Godot when it transfers to St James Studio this autumn.
Comedian Day is perhaps best known for his roles in the sketch show and in the recent West End production of The Ladykillers, alongside extensive television experience.
He is joined in a cast list crammed with comic expertise by Laura Kirman and James Marlowe, both of whom recently starred in Mischief Theatre’s The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre, as well as the UK tour of Peter Pan Goes Wrong.
Directed by Mark Bell, the mastermind behind riotous Mischief productions The Play That Goes Wrong and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery, Waiting For Waiting For Godot follows two hapless understudies occupying their time backstage. While they wait for their surely inevitable time in the spotlight, the duo contemplate art, life, theatre – and their precarious existence within it.
A hilariously witty comedy which received a warm reception upon its off-Broadway premiere, playwright Dave Hanson’s sharp exploration of the relevance of Beckett and showbiz plays at the St James Studio from 30 August to 24 September.
Of the announcement, Day said, “I am very excited to be doing what I consider the funniest play I have ever read, about the reality of the most noble of professions – the understudy! I cannot wait to share this play with London audiences.”
With such an exciting cast and creative team, you don’t have to wait for Waiting For Waiting For Godot any longer; tickets are available to purchase through the venue’s website.
