Mini VAULT

VAULT festival introduces family fun

Published 17 December 2014

Waterloo-based arts and entertainment extravaganza VAULT Festival will for the first time ever offer three weekends of underground shows, events and activities for families in 2015.

Creating a magical world for under 11s, Mini VAULT will take place on the weekends of 7 and 8 February, 21 and 22 February, and 7 and 8 March in the Leake Street tunnels under Waterloo.

The programme is designed to encourage young audiences to play, dance, make and run wild in the secret underground space.

One such show is an introduction to the world of the unexpected courtesy of Pirates Of The Carabina on 7 and 8 February. Featuring excerpts from the circus company’s hit show Flown, the highly technical, irreverent and silly show for ages 11 and under mixes extraordinary physical feats with original live music.

For younger children, Greenlight Theatre will present Albee Vector The Sound Collector, an interactive children’s show in which audiences must make all sorts of noises and collect them in jars to help Albee tell his thrilling tale of love, adventure and a sound-hoover called Mustard. Suitable for ages three and older, the show will play on 8 February and 7 March.

On 11 and 22 February, Classic Mayhem and The Pleasance Theatre Trust will bring Decomposed! My Brother’s Turning Into A Zombie, a show for ages six and older, to the festival.

Taking families on a journey through classical music with the odd operatic outburst, the production tells the tale of dysfunctional identical twins Will and Igor whose opposing personalities are an emotionally charged time-bomb. Can Will overcome his own broken personality and turn his life around to save his only brother from turning into a total gaming zombie?

For children aged eight and older, all-female performance company Figs In Wigs will present variety show bonanza Show Off on 22 February. Delving into our digital existence, the piece sees a troupe of five women re-introducing themselves throughout the show under various guises, from a dance troupe to circus performers.

Mini VAULT will also include a programme of exciting interactive workshops and free programmed events, allowing children to showcase their creativity while learning new and exciting skills.
