Lee Blessing’s tale of arms negotiators, A Walk In The Woods, is to return to the London stage at the Tricycle theatre this autumn.
The production, which was originally performed at the Northern Stage, Vermont, will be directed by the Tricycle’s Artistic Director, Nicolas Kent.
Full of tension and humour, A Walk In The Woods shows how the relationship between two arms negotiators evolves as they stroll in the woods above Geneva, away from the glare of the negotiating table. But will this escape lead to a true breakthrough or just more posturing?
In a reflection of the evolution of US politics since the play was first performed in 1988, with Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton all rising to positions of diplomatic global power, the role of the US negotiator in this production has been cast as a woman. Writer and actress Myriam Cyr will take the role, playing opposite Steven Crossley, who last worked with Kent on the US productions of the Tricycle’s Guantanamo: Honor Bound To Defend Freedom.
A Walk In The Woods runs at the Tricycle from 12 October to 1 November, following the revival of Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass, Owen McCafferty’s The Absence Of Women and current production Lay Me Down Softly, which finishes its run at the Kilburn venue on 6 August.
