Rising star Harry Treadaway will make a return to the Royal Court this autumn to star in Nina Raine’s second play Tribes.
He is joined in the cast by London theatre regulars Kika Markham, Stanley Townsend, Michelle Terry and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and newcomer Jacob Casselden.
Treadaway, who was last seen in the West End production of Ghosts, plays Daniel, a son in a family that lives by its own unconventional rules. You can be as rude as you like and as critical as you like, because arguments are just an expression of love. But Daniel’s brother Billy, who is deaf, is one of the few family members who actually listens. Meeting Sylvia makes him want to be heard.
Treadaway previously appeared at the Royal Court opposite his twin brother Luke in Mark Ravenhill’s Over There. In addition to his stage outings, the young actor is forging a formidable screen career with credits including Cape Wrath, City Of Ember and the acclaimed, BAFTA-winning Fishtank.
Markham, who plays mother Beth, has an extensive stage career including, most recently, the Women, Power and Politics season at the Tricycle theatre, while Townsend, who plays father Christopher, is an old friend of the Royal Court, where he has appeared in The Alice Trilogy, Shining City and The Weir.
Terry has appeared at the National Theatre regularly in recent years, in productions including London Assurance, All’s Well That Ends Well and England People Very Nice. Waller-Bridge’s credits include Like A Fishbone, 2nd May 1997 (Bush theatre), Rope (Almeida theatre) and Roaring Trade (Soho theatre).
Casselden, who plays the 18-year-old Billy, may not have as much stage experience as his fellow cast members but is no stranger to performing, having appeared in the short film Nectar and the BBC adaptation of Pride And Prejudice.
Tribes is Raine’s second play, following the success of her debut piece Rabbit. Directed by stage and screen director Roger Michell it is part of a Royal Court 2010/11 season that also includes Get Santa!, Kin, Red Bud, Wanderlust and Clybourne Park, which opens at the Sloane Square venue next week.
