After playing to a variety of audiences across the UK (and also internationally), the play Touching The Void is coming to the West End.

The first ever stage adaptation of Joe Simpson’s best-selling memoir, the play is the story of Joe’s struggle for survival on the perilous Siula Grande mountain in the Peruvian Andes. If that wasn’t testing enough, Joe also poses a dilemma to his climbing partner Simon Yates, who’s perched on an unstable snow-cliff, clinging onto the rope tying him to the severely injured Joe. Unable to recover Joe from the void, Simon is faced with the agonising decision to cut the rope that binds them.

Also a BAFTA award-winning film, this stage production will mark the 30th anniversary of the publication which inspired it.

This production of Touching The Void has already received critical acclaim from its audiences, where it has been performed at the Bristol Old Vic, Royal & Derngate, Northampton, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Hong Kong Festival and also on tour.

Directed by Bristol Old Vic’s Tom Morris (whose previous work includes War Horse and Swallows & Amazons), the story has been adapted by The Lyceum’s David Greig (The Events, The Suppliant Women, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

Tom Morris said: “This production has been an extraordinary journey into the unknown, inspired by one of the most compelling books I’ve ever opened.  Simpson’s story drove my imagination wild with fear, excitement and hope.  We hope this show will do the same for yours.”

Touching The Void will be on for a strictly limited season between 9 November – 29 February 2020 at the Duke Of York’s Theatre. Tickets are available now.
