As it prepares to re-open at the Savoy theatre, The Beatles’ theatrical spectacular Let It Be has released 250,000 new tickets.
The show, which reported yesterday that it had recouped its £1.6 million cost during the production’s initial 18-week run at the Prince of Wales theatre, transfers to its new home this week, bringing the Fab Four’s music to the Savoy theatre audience for the first time this Friday.
The show, which features 40 of The Beatles’ most popular songs, including classics like I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Hard Day’s Night, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Get Back, is booking at the Savoy until 5 October.
Commenting on the show’s success, producer Jamie Hendry said: “While every show strives to recoup its cost over the course of its run, every producer knows that it is an all too uncommon event, and a huge cause for celebration when it happens.”
Let It Be, which charts The Beatles’ rise from gigging at the Cavern Club to the heights of Beatlemania, features alternating band members, many of whom have previously performed in Beatles tribute bands.
Let It Be’s move to the Savoy theatre, leaves the Prince of Wales theatre waiting expectantly for the arrival of Tony Award-winning Broadway hit The Book Of Mormon. Written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the satirical musical about Mormon missionaries in Uganda begins previews on 25 February.
