The Snowman returns to The Peacock this Christmas for the 19th consecutive year, featuring Howard Blake’s much-loved score, which includes his iconic song Walking in the Air.
This year singer Aled Jones asked Howard to create a new arrangement of the song whereby he could duet with his younger (recorded) self. The new arrangement features on Jones’s forthcoming album One Voice at Christmas, released 25th November on the Classic FM label, and will also feature in The Snowman on stage, which runs at The Peacock from 23 November 2016 – 1 January 2017.
Aled Jones said, “Walking in the Air caps off such a great year for me and I’m thrilled to give it a new lease of life. Who knows, maybe we’ll get to the top of the Christmas chart again!”
Howard Blake said: “This is a unique theatrical event whereby through the wonders of technology one can hear Aled at the age of 12 singing with Aled as the tenor he is now. It should be spectacular, and I am delighted that we can include it in the show.”
Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates, this stage show has now transported generations of children and their families into the wintery world of a boy and his magical snowman.
The Birmingham Repertory Theatre production features music and lyrics by Howard Blake, choreography by Robert North, direction by Bill Alexander, design by Ruari Murchison and lighting by Tim Mitchell.
The enchanting show tells the story of a young boy’s adventures when his snowman comes miraculously to life on Christmas Eve. Featuring a dazzling array of colourful characters including dancing penguins, magical reindeer, a beautiful snow princess, her wicked beau Jack Frost and of course, Father Christmas himself, The Snowman is a Christmas treat for all the family and a perfect introduction to dance for the very young.
