The hugely popular Olivier Award-winning family hit The Railway Children has extended its run at the King’s Cross Theatre to 30 October.
The show, that brings E Nesbit’s classic children’s story to life in an immersive purpose built railway-inspired space, had previously been booking to 10 April. This latest extension marks the fourth time the play has extended its run following its critically acclaimed King’s Cross premiere in December 2014.
Mike Kenny’s adaptation was first seen in Waterloo in 2010, when was awarded the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment. Due to popular demand it arrived back into the capital at the newly built King’s Cross Theatre, where audiences sit on platforms either side of a railway track on which a live, working steam locomotive takes centre stage.
Directed by Damian Cruden, The Railway Children tells the now famous tale of Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis, three siblings whose lives change forever when their father is mysteriously taken away. They move from London to a cottage in rural Yorkshire with their mother, where they befriend the local railway porter, Perks, and embark on a journey of discovery, friendship and adventure.
The Railway Children cast currently includes Caroline Harker, Sophie Ablett, Matt Jessup and Beth Lilly as the all-important family, and former EastEnders star Shaun Williamson as Mr Perks.
