In our profile series, Tell Us In 10, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From how their castmates would describe them and alternative careers, to their Theatreland idols, we want to know it all!
This week, we hear from Oliver Nicholas, who’s currently playing George McFly in Back To The Future: The Musical.
If you’re a Back To The Future fan, you can also check out Amber Davies (Lorraine Baines) and Jordan Benjamin‘s (Mayor Goldie Wilson) interviews!
Find out more about Oliver and his career so far below:
1. My route into theatre was…
My mum always takes credit for this, she sent me to theatre classes at a young age after what she describes as a “phenomenal performance of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. I then went to train on the Acting course at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, and then did the Foundation course at LAMDA.
2. My West End idol is…
Ben Joyce, what a man, would love to work with him one day.
3. My colleagues would describe me as…
Incredibly unfunny with no friends.
4. My favourite show present or past (that isn’t one I star in) is…
I think anything put out by Mischief Theatre is hilarious. I can honestly say I have never laughed as much as when I first saw The Play That Goes Wrong!
5. The career moment I’m most proud of is…
Opening night for Back to the Future. Finally getting to live my dream playing a role I adore, with people I love, in a phenomenal show after years of working towards it. With all my friends and family supporting in the audience, I couldn’t imagine a more proud moment.
6. The hardest part about my role is…
When I have to be cool at the end of the show. The awkward nerdy stuff comes very naturally to me, but honestly the cool stuff took a whole lot of work.
7. If I didn’t work in theatre I would be…
A physicist or a mathematician, those were the other career paths I was exploring before landing on acting!
8. Something people don’t know about me is…
Probably that I’m vegan and have been for a while! (Yes the chocolate milk we use on stage is Oat Milk, I’m so sorry we lied to you).
9. The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
Find a job you love, and you won’t work a day in your life.
10. The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…
Learn to dance properly you fool, it’ll help you land way more roles. And practice your instruments more!
