In our profile series, Tell Us In 10, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From how their castmates would describe them and alternative careers, to their Theatreland idols, we want to know it all!
This week, we hear from Alex Edelman, who is currently performing in Alex Edelman: Just For Us at Menier Theatre (Menier Chocolate Factory).
Find out more about Alex and his career so far below:
1) My route into theatre was…
Winning the Edinburgh Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, I guess!
2) The thing I love most about my job is…
The community of people who I get to exist in, work with, perform for.
3) My favourite show from present or past (that isn’t one I have worked on) is…
Parade is what comes to mind, right now. Book of Mormon also really does it for me.
4) A misconception about my job is…
That the only important thing is making people laugh.
5) The hardest part about my job is…
Having to make friends and close connections and to only be able to see them sporadically.
6) The career moment I’m most proud of is…
Sitting down to write my second solo show, from pretty much nothing, in 2015. It convinced me I could do this.
7) On my days off I like to…
Seek out adventure.
8) My daily work rituals include…
20 minutes of phoneless thinking a day.
9) My inspiration is…
Fellow comedians.
10) The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
The specific is universal.
