Following yesterday’s announcement of the new season at the Menier Chocolate Factory, the intimate London Bridge venue has announced that its current production of Sweet Charity will transfer to the West End in April.
Tamzin Outhwaite will reprise the title role at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 23 April (press night 4 May) after the musical’s run at the Menier comes to an end on 7 March.
The 1966 musical Sweet Charity, with book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, tells the story of unlucky in love Charity Hope Valentine, a woman who always gives her heart and her dreams to the wrong man. The score features the famous numbers Hey Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now and The Rhythm Of Life.
Outhwaite, whose previous stage credits include Boeing Boeing in the West End and Breathing Corpses and Flesh Wound at the Royal Court, is well known for her television work which includes EastEnders, Red Cap, The Fixer and Paradox.
Further casting for the West End transfer is yet to be confirmed.
Sweet Charity is the latest in a string of Menier productions to transfer to the West End, including La Cage Aux Folles, Sunday In The Park With George, Little Shop Of Horrors and A Little Night Music.
