Some Like It Hip Hop returns for Sadler’s new season

ZooNation’s acclaimed family production Some Like It Hip Hop will return to the West End later this year, playing a limited run at the Peacock theatre prior to a UK tour.

Set in a city where books are banned and women are kept subservient to men, the comic tale of love, mistaken identity, cross-dressing and revolution will play from 20 September to 13 October.

With a nod to Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot and Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, ZooNation’s 2012 Olivier Award-nominated show features the acclaimed company’s trademark style of hip hop, comedy and physical theatre, and original music by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde.

The show will play as part of the dance venue’s newly announced season which also sees 2012’s Olivier Award-winning production DESH return to its North London space Sadler’s Wells from 2 to 9 October.

Acclaimed dancer and choreographer Akram Khan’s DESH was described by The Guardian as “the most urgent, beautiful and confident work of his career”. Taking influences from Khan’s homeland in Bengali, the contemporary solo work draws on multiple tales of land, nation and resistance, all converging in the body and voice of one man trying to find his balance in an unstable world. Moving between Britain and Bangladesh, Khan weaves threads of memory, experience and myth into a surreal world of surprising connection.

Other highlights in the new season include performances from prestigious companies including San Francisco Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, Russell Maliphant Company and the UK debut of New York based company Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet.

Families also have a festive treat in store when Birmingham Royal Ballet’s The Snowman returns to the Peacock theatre for the 15th year running, playing from 28 November to 6 January.
