London Children’s Ballet (LCB) brings its adaptation of classic novel The Secret Garden to the Peacock from 17-20 May.
This is the first ever ballet of The Secret Garden and is devised by rising young choreographer Christine Sundt and set to an original score by Artem Vassiliev. The production stars 54 young dancers aged 9-15 who were selected from 600 audition candidates last November.
Written by Frances Hodgson Burnett in 1911, The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox, who, after surviving a cholera epidemic in India, is orphaned and sent to live in her sad Uncle’s house on the bleak Yorkshire moors. At first an unpleasant shock, Mary’s life at Misselthwaite Manor is given a sprinkle of magic when, with the help of a little robin and local boy Dickon, Mary discovers a locked garden and an even greater Misselthwaite secret.
Founded in 1994, LCB offers young dancers the opportunity to perform as part of a professional ballet production, from audition to performance. Previous productions include The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Canterville Ghost and A Little Princess.
