Teenagers of the 90s, rejoice: a new musical parody based on the popular TV comedy Saved By The Bell will makes its UK debut at The Other Palace in March.
Bayside!, the musical which extended seven times off Broadway, promises to bring all your favourite characters from the show to the stage, including Zack, Kelly, Screech, Lisa, Slater, Jesse, and, of course, Principle Belding.
The show is penned by Bob and Tobly McSmith, creators of Friends The Musical Parody, which is currently showing Off-Broadway. American actor Ben Campbell (A Futile & Stupid Gesture, Netflix) has been cast as Zack Morris, a role made famous by Mark-Paul Gosselaar, with further casting to be announced.
The show is being co produced by Michael with Alan Donnes, president of the popular American franchise ‘National Lampoon’, whom originally produced the show off Broadway.
Bayside producer Michael Neri said of the announcement, “Nostalgia of the 80’s seems to be a trend at the moment with so many reboots and one off reunions on our TV screens, so being able to present Bayside in a musical format is a wonderful way of remembering what once was… I’m personally elated to be premiering the show at ‘The Other Palace’, a theatre which prides itself on nurturing new work”.
Bayside The Musical! offers a raunchy, unauthorised parody of the wholesome television show. Billed as “Saved By The Bell meets Book Of Mormon”, it promises to afford audiences the chance to relive some of the most iconic moments from the nineties television show – with the caveat it may be more lively and cheeky than you remember.
The production will play from Friday 9 to Saturday 17 March, with tickets available through The Other Palace website. Bayside follows the run of new musical Eugenius! in the Victoria venue.
