Sadler's Wells will make history when it takes a showcase of dance to this year's Glastonbury Festival. It will be the first time that the leading dance venue has presented work at the UK's most famous music festival, which runs from 22-24 June. The pieces, which highlight the wide variety in Sadler's Wells's work, will be staged on the Dance Saddlespan Stage for one hour at 15:00 each day. Among the performers taking part are Sadler's Wells's resident company Random Dance, hip hop crew BirdGang and kathak performer Seema Patel.
By journeying to the West Country, Sadler's Wells becomes the second London organisation to take work to Glastonbury in recent years, following English National Opera, which performed at the festival in 2004.
While most coverage of Glastonbury focuses on the music, three fields at the festival are devoted to theatre, circus and performance. Over the course of the weekend, more than 1,200 shows, including comedy Barry Cryer, Phil Nichol, Jim Jeffries, Marcus Brigstocke and Reginald D Hunter, will be seen by the assembled festivalgoers.
