Sadler’s Wells has announced its Spring 2020 season this morning, featuring world premieres, UK premieres and 12 Sadler’s Wells original productions. tickets will go on sale on 14 October (7 October if you’re a member) so set your alarms, pop up post-it and scrawl all over your calendar, there are a lot of shows that are not to me missed!
Message In A Bottle
Three-time Oliver Award-nominee Kate Prince’s Message In A Bottle is set to the iconic his from Sting. This is the latest work from Kate, who has recently co-written SYLVIA and choreographed musical hit Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. This will be the production’s world premiere ahead of a UK and international tour.

Singin’ In The Rain
The fabulous Adam Cooper will reprise the iconic role of Don Lockwood in Jonathon Church’s production of Singin’ In The Rain. After a successful run at Chichester Festival Theatre and in the West End will bring Andrew Wright’s choreography and Simon Higlett’s set design (including 14,000 litres of water on stage every night!) back to London for summer.

Michael Keegan-Dolan is following up his critically acclaimed Swan Lake/Loch na hEala, with a new co-production with Sadler’s Wells. Titled and inspired by the irish word màm – meaning the pass that connects two sides of a mountain – the production looks at polarities coming together to resolution. The production will feature 12 dancers from Michael’s company, Teaċ Daṁsa as well as musical collective stargaze and Irish concertina player Cormac Begley.

The Rite Of Spring/ common ground[s]
This new production is a collaboration between the Pina Bausch Foundation in Germany, École des Sables in Senegal and Sadler’s Wells. Pina Bausch’s The Rite Of Spring will be danced by a new company of dancers from African countries. In common ground[s], Germaine Acogny, founder of École des Sables, and Malou Airaudo, former member of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, use their experiences as choreographers, professors and mothers to explore their common ground.

Johnathon Young and Crystal Pite’s new collaboration after the success of their Olivier Award-winning production, Betroffenheit, will be the comic Russian play Revizor (The Inspector General). They will reunite with Crystal’s company, Kidd Pivot, to produce a unique hybrid of theatre and dance. Combining recorded dialogue with live dance, they will explore the tensions and the comedy in the relationship between language and the body.

Sadler’s Wells Composer Series
The Sadler’s Wells Composer Series challenges choreographers to create new works with the music of living composers. The project aims to foster collaboration between contemporaries in music and dance. This spring will see the third Sadler’s Wells production in this series, focusing on the music of contemporary classical composer Nico Muhly. The triple bill will include Julie Cunningham, Michael Keegan-Dolan and Justin Peck, who’s composition has been specially commissioned by the New York City Ballet, who will make their first appearance in London in over a decade to perform this piece.

Following eight men during an evening in a British pub, Lloyd Newson’s production wrestles with ideas about masculinity.The 25-year-old production now returns to the stage with Newson’s re-working and a brand new cast from world-renowned company Rambert.

BLKDOG
Co-produced by Far From The Norm and Sadler’s Wells, Oliver-Award-winning BLKDOG premiered at Sadler’s Wells in Autumn 2018 as part of a series of commissions for their 20th anniversary. The blend of hip-hop and free-form dance now returns to its birthplace, telling the tale of tension of a childish artist’s struggles with aging.
