The Royal Ballet has revealed a season of productions balancing the past with the present and full length work with mixed bills for its 09/10 season.
Among the season’s highlights are the return of Wayne McGregor’s Laurence Olivier Award-winning piece Chroma and South Bank Show Award-winning piece Infra, the revival of Kenneth MacMillan’s final work The Judas Tree, which also won a Laurence Olivier Award, and a 50th anniversary revival of Frederick Ashton’s version of La Fille Mal Gardée, first performed on 28 January 1960.
Among revivals of full length ballets Mayerling, Romeo And Juliet and Cinderella, the season’s mixed bills see pieces such as George Balanchine’s Agon, Glen Tetley’s Sphinx and Wheeldon’s Electric Counterpoint play alongside new work from McGregor, Jonathan Watkins, Kim Brandstrup, Alastair Marriott, Liam Scarlett and Arthur Pita.
The Christmas period is celebrated with a staging of The Nutcracker and the double bill of Les Patineurs and Tales Of Beatrix Potter, originally made as a film in 1971.
The new season at the Royal Opera House, which opens on 7 October, also features performances from visiting artists Vincent Mantsoe, Ballet Black, Ockham’s Razor, Zimmerman/De Perrot, Walker Park and Bare Bones.
