Kids Week 2013 has got off to a phenomenally successful start, selling close to a staggering 50,000 tickets in its first 24 hours of sales.
Tickets for our annual kids go free campaign, which offers a free child’s ticket for every adult ticket purchased to participating shows, plus up to a further two half-price, went on sell at 10:00 yesterday and once again proved its record-breaking, award-winning credentials with thousands of families snapping up tickets to more than 30 top London shows.
Julian Bird, Chief Executive of the Society of London Theatre, the not-for-profit organisation also behind this website, commented on the success, saying: “The sales within the first 24 hours for Kids Week are incredible and we would like to thank the many shows that have once again supported this initiative to enable children to enjoy the theatre in the month of August.”
Now in its 16th year, Kids Week will run for the whole of August with plenty of tickets still on sale for a huge range of shows including top West End musicals Billy Elliot The Musical, We Will Rock You and Wicked, and family entertainment shows Brainiac Live!, Dinosaur Zoo and Horrible Histories – Barmy Britain.
As well as the incredible range of shows on offer, children are also invited to attend a wide variety of free activities and events as part of the London Lifestyle award-winning annual event. This year participants can choose to explore the pre-historic puppetry of Dinosaur Zoo, attend a drama workshop with a star from Horrible Histories or put their questions to the cast of Wicked.
Chris Edmonds, Chairman of Ticketmaster, sung the campaign’s praises commenting: “We are very proud to support Kids Week and it looks as if this is going to be another record-breaking year with ticket sales up a staggering 30% already. It’s great to know that so many young people will be getting into the theatre this summer.”
