Hollywood star Rebel Wilson will make her West End debut as Guys And Doll’s Miss Adelaide next month for a strictly limited appearance in the critically acclaimed musical.
Following her major film debut in 2011’s breakthrough comedy Bridesmaids, Wilson has fast become one of the world’s most popular comedic performers, winning awards for her roles in blockbusters How To Be Single and as the scene-stealing Fat Amy in the hugely successful Pitch Perfect series.
While the unexpected news was met by the West End today with excited surprise, Wilson’s musical theatre debut in London was arguably always only a matter of time, with the actor beginning her career performing on the stage in her home country as a member of the acclaimed Australian Theatre for Young People company.
Commenting on her forthcoming role – and her fittingly eccentric journey to discovering musical theatre – Wilson said: “A lot of people who know me from my more recent film work have no idea how much theatre has influenced my life. I saw my first musical at age 14, a show called 42nd Street, after one of my family’s dogs had unsuccessfully auditioned to be in it. It blew me away and I’ve loved musical theatre ever since.
“I am delighted to be making my West End debut in Guys And Dolls and to be playing such an iconic role as Miss Adelaide is truly an honour. Hopefully I’ll crush it… but you’ll have to come and see me to find out!”
Wilson will join Gordon Greenberg’s five star hit from 28 June for performances until 21 August.
The show’s current leading cast members, Nigel Lindsay and Samantha Spiro, will play their last performance on 26 June with casting news as to who will be joining Wilson in the leading quartet to be announced in the coming weeks.
