Edward Hall’s all-male Propeller company will tour the Shakespearean pairing of Henry V and The Winter’s Tale in 2012, bringing them to the Hampstead theatre from 4 to 21 July.
The testosterone-heavy theatre company, with a reputation for blending a rigorous approach to text with an exciting, physical aesthetic, will also take the productions to Cheltenham, Guildford, Brighton, Milton Keynes, Sheffield, Canterbury, Newbury, Newcastle, Coventry, Norwich and Plymouth.
The double bill of the Bard’s work pairs an iconic British royal with a ruler who brings about his own devastation.
Propeller’s new production of Henry V, which moves from the corridors of Westminster to the battlefields of France, follows the French assault of the famous British monarch and includes one of Shakespeare’s most quoted speeches at the siege of Harfleur.
The Winter’s Tale, a revival of Propeller’s 2005 production, tells the story of jealous Leontes, whose paranoia causes his life to collapse around him.
Henry V and The Winter’s Tale join a 2012 line up at the Hampstead theatre that also includes the UK premiere of Simon Stephens’s satire The Trial Of Ubu and the world premiere of Richard Nelson’s Harley Granville-Barker bio-play Farewell To The Theatre.
