Audiences will quite literally be in the dark about what is happening when they attend the new production announced for West London’s Print Room.
Italian hit Tutto Bene, Mamma?, which receives its UK premiere at the venue on 19 June (previews from 15 June), suspends actors and audience members alike in utter darkness as the haunting true story of a mother and her young boy unfolds.
The play written by Gloria Mina and given an English adaptation by April De Angelis previously sold out when it played in Milan.
Though theatregoers may not see them, Laura Donnelly, Beatie Edney, Georgia Groome and Philip Wright will make up the cast. 21-year-old actress Groome, star of films Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging, will be using the darkness to its full effect to play Boy, with Donnelly (The River at the Royal Court, Judgment Day at the Almeida) as her mother.
Ewan Marshall, former Director of Graeae Theatre Company, directs the production that follows the acclaimed staging of Amy Herzog’s 4000 Miles, which closes tomorrow.
