There’s something irrefutably funny about watching the best laid plans go to pot. Just ask the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society. People have enjoyed witnessing their not-quite-perfect performances in The Play That Goes Wrong so much, the show is now celebrating its 4th birthday by extending until 27 October 2019.
And to add to the riotous celebrations, the disaster-fuelled show has released a trailer, which… well, it goes… err… awry. Take a look.
Since opening in September 2014, the Olivier Award-winning The Play That Goes Wrong has gone from strength to (disastrous) strength, claiming Best New Comedy at the Oliviers in 2015, as well as a Tony Award for its Broadway transfer last year.
It’s a remarkable rags-to-riches story for the comedy, which started with four paying customers at its first performance in a London fringe venue. The show will be playing in twelve countries simultaneously this autumn.
The Play That Goes Wrong follows the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, who are trying their very best to stage a production of a 1920s murder mystery. But as the show’s title might suggest, this is not quite as easy as it sounds…
The show was written by original Mischief Theatre company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, the masterminds also behind Olivier Award-nominated comedies Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery.
