Platform Theatre opens with promenade opera for families

Platform Theatre, a new space in King’s Cross, is to open this week with a unique family production born out of a four year collaboration between English Pocket Opera Company, undergraduates at Central Saint Martins and students from local London schools.

The project has been designed principally with education in mind; giving undergraduates to primary school pupils the chance to experience, develop and enjoy all aspects of the design process by working with a professional theatre company.

The company have taken Bartok’s operatic masterpiece Duke Bluebeard’s Castle and created a promenade production that uses the brand new theatre and studio spaces at Central Saint Martins to create the world of Duke Bluebeard’s castle and its seven mysterious rooms. With each room the work of an individual designer, the production promises to be dark, mysterious and visually inventive.

The audience will be led through the spaces by the cast as they discover the secrets and horrors hidden in each of the seven locked rooms; creating an immersive experience and a unique introduction to a brand new theatre.

The production runs from 17 to 21 January. For more details visit English Pocket Opera’s website.
