Later this month, Paul Rider will join Cuba Gooding Jr., Sarah Soetaert, Josefina Gabrielle and Ruthie Henshall in the multi-award-winning Chicago at West End’s Phoenix Theatre.
Paul will play Amos Hart, a role he previously played during Chicago’s run at the Adelphi and Cambridge Theatres. He’s recently appeared in theatre shows A Woman of No Importance (Vaudeville), The Tempest, Cymbeline, Measure for Measure, Julius Caesar, The Duchess of Malfi, Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 and Henry V (Shakespeare’s Globe), and Wilbur in the UK Tour of Hairspray.

Set in mid-1920s Chicago, the show follows Velma Kelly (Josefina) and Roxie Hart (Sarah) – two performers who are locked up in the same County Jail for murder. When Velma found her husband and sister in bed together, she committed a crime of passion and murdered them. Chorus girl Roxie lands herself in prison when she shoots her lover Fred Casley, resulting in her stealing Velma’s lawyer, Billy Flynn, as well as her spotlight.
The world-famous musical satirises corruption within the criminal justice system, with a heavy dose of sexy, sassy and dangerously seductive songs and dance numbers.
Chicago is a multi-award-winning show which holds the 1997 Olivier Award for Outstanding Musical Production. It originally ran in London for 15 years and received rave reviews, which made it a sell-out hit immediately.
After a five-and-a-half-year absence from the West End, Chicago is making its London return after a successful UK and international tour.
Performances will begin at the Phoenix Theatre from Monday 26 March.
