Artistic Director Jez Bond has announced Park Theatre’s new January to June 2018 season. Featuring five world, European, UK and London premiere productions, Park Theatre continues to build its reputation as a home for new writing and celebrated transfers.
PARK200
Arnold Mittelman in association with Park Theatre present the UK Premiere of Rothschild & Sons, directed by Jeffrey B. Moss the show runs from 24 January to 17 February 2018. The remarkable story of how a father, mother and their sons changed the world. This uplifting and universal tale affirming human dignity springs from the hearts and minds of Broadway songwriters Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock and Tony-nominated writer Sherman Yellen.
A simple8 and Royal & Derngate, Northampton co-production, in association with Park Theatre of A Passage To India comes to Park Theatre from 20 February to 24 March 2018. Based on the novel by E. M. Forster, this piece is full of humour and rich humanity but with vast a philosophical and political scope.
From 28 March – 28 April 2018 the theatre hosts the London Premiere of Pressure, written by and starring David Haig. It’s D-Day, June 1944; the Allied forces led by General Eisenhower are poised to launch. 350,000 lives at stake and the decision of whether or not to attack comes down to the most important weather forecast of all time.
May brings another premiere to Park Theatre in the form of Building The Wall, written by Robert Schenkkan and directed by Artistic Director Jez Bond. The play examines what happens when an ordinary person becomes a cog in a regime and how the inconceivable becomes the inevitable. 2019, America. Rick is incarcerated and awaiting sentencing for the crime of the century. He grants just one interview – to Gloria, an African American historian.
The Original Theatre Company in association with Park Theatre presents the World Premiere of Monogamy from 6 June – 7 July 2018. Written by Torben Betts and directed by Alastair Whatley this is a searing, sharp, state of the nation comedy from one of the UK’s most exciting playwrights.
PARK90
The UK Premiere of There Or Here comes to Park 90 from 23 January to 17 February 2018. Written by Jennifer Maisel and directed by Vik Sivalingam, There or Here is a PEN West Literary Award Finalist play about outsourcing, motherhood and identity.
From 20 February – 17 March 2018 Park 90 hosts the London premiere of A Princess Undone. Kensington Palace, 1993. She was the Diana of her day but that day has gone. HRH The Princess Margaret seeks one final chance to be of service. Acquiring potentially sensational letters from Charles and Diana, she means to burn the evidence. But there are other papers, relating to Margaret herself. And when an ex-gangster admirer returns from her past, the Queen’s sister has the choice to make or break her family yet again.
Celia Dugua in association with Park Theatre present Vincent River by Philip Ridley and directed by Robert Chevara from 20 March – 14 April 2018. Thrilling, heartbreaking and darkly humorous by turns, it is now seen as one of the most powerful explorations of hate crime – and society’s need to crush ‘difference’ – ever written.
Faceless by Selina Fillinger and directed by Prav MJ will run at Park Theatre from 17 April – 12 May 2018. Inspired by a real court case in the USA, Faceless follows the story of Susie, a suburban Chicago teenager living her life on the internet.
Aegis Productions in association with Park Theatre presents Schism from 16 May – 9 June 2018. Written by Athena Stevens and directed by Lily McLeish, this is a stunning new play about two people finding each other. Failed architect Harrison had plans to end his life. The last thing he needed was Katherine, a young student with cerebral palsy, breaking into his house begging for his help.
Finally, from 12 June – 7 July 2018 Robin Lefevre directs Beirut by Alan Bowne. Torch has been quarantined in a dark, squalid room on the Lower East Side of New York City, which the locals refer to as “Beirut” after testing positive for a nameless disease but his girlfriend, Blue, decides to make the dangerous journey across the quarantine line to be with him.
