With seemingly the whole world buzzing about Netflix’s Bridgerton at the moment, we wanted to do a bit of a dive into the cast member Jonathan Bailey’s West End career, aka the hot mess that is Anthony Bridgeton. Now you may know him as the dreamy older brother of Daphne but did you know that he’s an Olivier Award winner?
This is our top five Jonathan Bailey West End moments:
Number one
When he presented the award for Best Sound Design at the 2013 Olivier Awards. Little did he know at this point that just six years later he himself will be winning an Olivier Award.
Number two
When Jonathan Bailey won Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his performance in Company (Gielgud Theatre) at the 2019 Olivier Awards with Mastercard. I love his acceptance speech it’s so goofy and moving, he says that the musical allowed the cast to show a celebratory snapshot of gay love which is really touching.
Number three
When he performed in The Last Five Years with Samantha Barks (at the St James’ Theatre, now known as The Other Palace), who later this year will be going on to play Elsa in Frozen when it comes to the West End. Watch our interview with them:
Number four
We’re back at the 2019 Olivier Awards where Gok Wan and Angelica Bell are interviewing Jonathan Bailey on the red carpet. I have to say he’s looking incredibly suave next to his cast members including Patti Lupone, who’s talking about Company’s nine nominations that year. Gok Wan even gives Patti Lupone a little hug and a kiss, imagine if we could still do that?
Number five
Jonathan Bailey presenting Company’s live performance at the 2019 Olivier Awards and what a performance it was. Rosalie Craig who played the lead in Stephen Sondheim’s Company sings Being Alive to an enraptured audience.
So, that was our top five Jonathan Bailey West End moments. What a talented guy, hopefully we’ll be seeing him loads more in the future on stage and on screen.
