Former Teachers co-stars James Lance and Adrian Bower are reuniting for new comedy Ordinary Dreams, which plays at Trafalgar Studio 2 from 12 May to 6 June (press night 14 May).
Written by Marcus Markou, Ordinary Dreams, subtitled How To Survive A Meltdown With Flair, is billed as a dark comedy for our times, a story of middle class anxiety sparked by recession, taxes, litter and antisocial neighbours.
The story centres on Penny and Miles, who are awaiting the imminent birth of their first child from completely different perspectives. Recovering alcoholic Penny is the epitome of calm anticipation and deep breathing, but partner Miles is gradually retreating into a quagmire of fear and neurosis about the baby’s future. While Miles spends his days creating a utopian fantasy for his son to live in, Penny’s ex-alcoholic ex-boyfriend Dan and his new-age girlfriend Layla are on hand to offer their own advice.
Lance and Bower previously worked together on the hit C4 series Teachers. Since then, Lance has gone on to star in the series Moving Wallpaper, Sensitive Skin, Absolute Power and No Heroics, while his stage credits include Henry IV at the Donmar Warehouse and A Place At The Table at the Bush theatre. Bower has previously appeared at Trafalgar Studios in Elling, which originated at the Bush theatre. He has screen credits including Apparitions, Dirty Filthy Love and The Quatermass Experiment.
Ordinary Dreams opens at Trafalgar Studio 2 following New Boy, which plays until 11 April, and Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, which runs from14 April to 9 May.
