Christopher Fry’s adaptation of Jean Anouilh’s comedy Ring Round The Moon is to close at the Playhouse on 29 March after a run of seven weeks. It had been booking until 24 May.
A press statement said: “Despite positive reviews, ticket sales have not been sufficient to sustain the run and therefore the producers have made the difficult decision to close the show.”
Set at a society ball in 1950s France, Ring Round The Moon follows physically identical but emotionally opposite twins Hugo and Frederic, both played by JJ Field. As Hugo concocts a scheme to prise lovelorn Frederic away from the vampish Diana, he draws the unwitting innocent Isabelle into his plans. Little does he know that his wily aunt (Angela Thorne) is doing a spot of plotting herself.
The large cast also includes Belinda Lang, Emily Bruni, Fiona Button, Joanna David, Elisabeth Dermot Walsh, Peter Eyre, Andrew Havill and John Ramm. They are directed by Sean Mathias. em>CB
