The Park Theatre has announced its new January – June 2019 season, which will feature performances from comedian Miles Jupp and Peter Duncan in exciting new plays.
Artistic Director Jez Bond said of the line-up: “With a season that includes British, American, French, Danish and Vietnamese playwrights, I’m excited to announce an eclectic season of predominantly new writing that promises something for everyone.”
In the Park’s larger space, Park200, the season opens with A Bodin Saphir’s Rosenbaum’s Rescue, exploring the mystery of how over 7,000 Danish Jews managed to evade the Nazi peril in WWII. This is followed by the London transfer of Gently Down The Stream by Martin Sherman. The show originally played an acclaimed run at the Public Theater in New York, and is directed by Sean Mathias (No Man’s Land). It celebrates and mourns the women who led the way for marital equality.
Jupp then leads The Life I Lead, telling the story of the well-known face of Walt Disney’s favourite English gent, David Tomlinson.
Parisian playwright Alexis Michalik’s Intra Muros follows, which sees an ageing thespian prepare to direct his first theatre class inside a maximum-security prison, before Jonathan Maitland returns to the Park Theatre with timely comedy-drama The Last Temptation Of Boris Johnson. The line-up is concluded by Napoli, Brooklyn, a family drama about three Italian American sisters grappling with 1960s New York.
The Life I Lead at Park Theatre
In the Park Theatre’s smaller venue, Park90, Blue Peter presenter and actor Duncan stars as a seasoned Pantomime Dame who returns to his Northern roots in Katie Duncan’s The Dame. This is followed by father-son comedy My Dad’s Gap Year, a jet-black comedy about a comedian fighting depression in We’re Staying Right Here, and a poignant love international love story in Cry Havoc.
The season is rounded off by an exploration of the pantomime of pre-Brexit politics, Hell Yes I’m Tough Enough; what happens when a 75-year-old takes a con artist hostage, Beneath The Blue Rinse; and Tuyen Do’s family saga Summer Rolls, which follows the dual journey of a second-generation Vietnamese woman pursuing prosperity.
