Have I Got News For You team captain and improv master Paul Merton is to bring his new stand-up show Out Of My Head to the Vaudeville theatre this autumn.
Merton’s first stand-up show since 1999, which plays in London from 1 to 20 October, finds the comedian musing about his brain in a night of sketches, music, magic and variety that includes his improvisational comedy chums Lee Simpson, Richard Vranch and Suki Webster.
Merton, who is best known for his weekly sparring with Ian Hislop on BBC2’s topical comedy quiz and for hosting a series of documentaries about British comedy, first found fame as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s before joining the Comedy Store’s regular improv comedy troupe The Comedy Store Players, with whom he still performs.
Paul Merton: Out Of My Head, which tours the UK before opening in London, runs at the Vaudeville following the summer season of Joe Orton’s comedy What The Butler Saw, which stars another stand-up comedian, Omid Djalili.
The venue on the Strand is currently the home of hit Broadway transfer Master Class, in which Cagney And Lacey’s Tyne Daly plays the iconic operatic diva Maria Callas.
