Timing, the debut play from impressionist and actor Alistair McGowan, will premiere at the King’s Head theatre from 30 September (press night 7 October) with a cast including Edward Baker-Duly and Dean Gaffney.
McGowan, who was best known for his BBC sketch show Big Impression before his recent return to the stage in shows including Little Shop Of Horrors, Cabaret and They’re Playing Our Song, turns his hand to playwriting with this comedy which explores love, work and fatherhood.
Timing centres on Julian Mann, who goes to work one morning and is surprised to find his ex-girlfriend in his workplace. She is not just any ex, she is the woman who captured his heart and shared his life for five years, before she walked out on him and hasn’t spoken to him since.
The role of Julian is played by Baker-Duly, a regular on the London stage whose recent credits include Gone With The Wind at the New London theatre and Rookery Nook at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Gaffney, who returns to the stage in the role of Dino, is probably best known for his long-running role as Robbie in EastEnders, though he has also been seen on television in Extras and Harry Hill’s TV Burp.
They are joined in the cast by Paul Bazely, Matt Cross, Louise Ford, Peter Hamilton Dyer and Georgia Mackenzie.
Timing, which plays until 8 November, is directed by Tamara Harvey, whose West End credits include Plague Over England, Whipping It Up and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.
