Elizabeth McGovern and David Suchet are to join Richard Dreyfuss in Kevin Spacey’s production of Complicit at the Old Vic from 7 January.
London-based American actress McGovern, who plays Judith Brown in Joe Sutton’s political drama, has previously been seen on the London stage in Hurlyburly at the Old Vic in 1997, Three Days Of Rain at the Donmar Warehouse in 1999, plus Dinner With Friends at the Hampstead and The Misanthrope at the Young Vic. She has also appeared on Broadway and has numerous film credits, including Once Upon A Time In America, Ragtime, Racing With The Moon, Buffalo Soldiers, House Of Mirth and Wings Of The Dove.
British actor Suchet, cast as Roger Cowan, was last seen in the West End in The Last Confession at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in 2007. A hugely experienced stage actor who has been nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award no less than six times, Suchet’s previous appearances include Amadeus at the Old Vic, Once In A Lifetime, Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, Oleanna, and Separation, plus many roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Suchet is also well known for his long-standing television role as Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective Poirot, and has other screen credits including Maxwell, The Way We Live Now and Henry VIII.
McGovern and Suchet join the already announced Richard Dreyfuss in the cast of Complicit. A powerful play exploring the current political climate, the story centres on Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Ben Kritzer (Dreyfuss), who is hauled before the Supreme Court to face the dilemma of defending his belief in the freedom of the press or protecting his family.
The trio is directed by Spacey, Artistic Director of the Old Vic, who previously directed Cloaca, his inaugural production at the Waterloo venue.
Complicit plays at the Old Vic from 7 January to 21 February (press night 19 January). It follows Alan Ayckbourn trilogy The Norman Conquests, which plays until 20 December.
