Natascha McElhone will take on the iconic role made famous by Glenn Close in the 1987 film Fatal Attraction when the psychological thriller comes to the London stage later this year.
The British actress, who is best known for her appearances on screen in blockbuster films including The Truman Show, Ronin, The Devil’s Own and Solaris, will take on the role of Alex Forrest, the woman who turns the life of married New York lawyer Dan Gallagher into a living hell after they embark on what he assumes is a no strings attached weekend affair.
The Californication star returns to the stage for the first time since 2006’s Honour at the Wyndham’s Theatre. Elsewhere her credits include stage productions of Richard III and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, and The Count Of Monte Cristo at the Manchester Royal Exchange.
Adapted for the stage by the film’s original screenwriter James Dearden and directed by Olivier Award winner Trevor Nunn, Fatal Attraction will play at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 11 March to 21 June.
The tale of emotional blackmail and obsession will follow Richard Bean’s hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, which comes to the end of its two-year run at the venue on 1 March.
It has not yet been announced who will step into Michael Douglas’ shoes as the lawyer who is pursued by the bunny-boiling editor with terrifying consequences.
