The full cast has been announced for Kwame Kwei-Armah’s newest play Let There Be Love, which opens at the Tricycle in January. Joining the previously announced Joseph Marcell are Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Lydia Leonard. Let There Be Love, which runs from 17 January to 16 February, is Kwei-Armah’s second new piece to debut on the London stage in the space of three months, following Statement Of Regret at the National.
Let There Be Love follows cantankerous West Indian pensioner Alfred Morris, who returns to his Willesden home when he is kicked out by his daughter. His Polish cleaner/home help is eager to learn the ways of her new home, and Alfred realises he may still have a role in life, teaching Maria how to be British. The tale is set against the music of Nat King Cole.
Duncan-Brewster is a Tricycle regular, having appeared in shows including Fabulation, Playboy Of The West Indies and Blues For Mr Charlie. Leonard is new to the Kilburn venue, but has previously appeared in Frost/Nixon, Hecuba, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Love’s Labour’s Lost.
Marcell returns to the Tricycle, where he appeared in Walk Hard Talk Loud in 2005 and Gem Of The Ocean in 2006. He went on to spend the summer of 2006 at Shakespeare’s Globe, where he appeared in Coriolanus and Under The Black Flag.
