Watch This Space, the National Theatre’s annual outdoor summer festival, presents Thrills And Spills Day, a day of family-friendly activities and installations, on Saturday 9 August.

The day kicks off at 12:00 with live jazz for kids in the foyer of the National, before the action moves to Theatre Square – the space outside the front of the National Theatre – which will be buzzing with fun activities for children and their parents throughout the afternoon, until 18:30. Installations during the day include a giant aluminium whale, a Pleasure Garden and an adventure in the dark entitled The Black Maze. Prehistoric monsters will be let loose in Saurus, while French magician Paul-Henri Jeannel will get everyone wearing magical brown paper hats.

Now in its 10th year, the Watch This Space festival is a playful celebration of performing arts which brings to Theatre Square a diverse array of theatre, music, cabaret, dance, film, circus and installations by performance artists from across Europe. The festival continues throughout the summer until 28 September, with other highlights including a celebration of dance on the August bank holiday weekend.
