The Apollo welcomes the mob in the new year as the anonymous figure known only as Mercy Man presents his one-man show An Audience With The Mafia from 21 January-16 February.
Delving into the murky world of the real-life Tony Sopranos and Vito Corleones, An Audience With The Mafia charts the rise of organised crime from remote villages in Sicily to the present day, lifting the lid on the birth of the American mafia a century ago, prohibition and the mafia wars of the roaring 20s, the building of Las Vegas and the true stories of Frank Sinatra, the Kennedys and Marilyn Monroe.
Mercy Man – a character based on an assassin employed by the mafia – gives his audience an insight into the complicated rules and rituals of the mafia and its legendary gangsters Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, Dutch Schulz and the sinister Murder Incorporated – an elite squad of assassins employed by the mafia in the 1930s.
An Audience With The Mafia occupies the Apollo following Glengarry Glen Ross, which ends its run on 12 January. em>CB
