London’s Theatreland will be a riot of colour, images and, most importantly, light later this month when Lumiere London illuminates the West End’s streets from 14 to 17 January.
The light festival, developed by creative producers Artichoke and supported by the Mayor of London, will run for four evenings in the West End, Mayfair and King’s Cross, giving Londoners and tourists alike an exciting new way to experience London’s famous locations and architecture at night.
Among the exhibits brightening London’s dark January evenings are a riot of colour ‘painting’ Westminster Abbey’s West Gate, light sculptures in Piccadilly and stars of the British screen being beamed onto the façade of BAFTA 195 Piccadilly.
With the festival running from 18:30 to 22:30 each evening, London’s streets are expected to be busier than usual with some roads, including Piccadilly, Regent Street and Oxford Circus closed to traffic from 16:30 to 23:30 on festival days. Piccadilly and Oxford Circus will also experience road closures from 3 to 20 January in the build up to and aftermath of the festival.
If you are attending a show during this period we’d suggest checking your travel plans in advance to ensure you arrive at the theatre in good time. We’d also suggest taking the time to enjoy Lumiere London at the same time as your theatre trip.
