Leading figures from London’s Royal Opera House, Royal Court and Roundhouse were named in the Queen’s 2012 New Year Honours list, alongside performers including David Harewood (pictured).
Antonio Pappano, Music Director of the Royal Opera House, is the most highly decorated of the capital’s honourees, receiving a knighthood for services to music. Born in Epping to Italian parents, the pianist and conductor joined the prestigious Covent Garden venue in 2002 following previous roles at Den Norske Opera and La Monnaie.
Chair of the Royal Court Board, Anthony Burton, is honoured with a CBE, as are performers Helena Bonham-Carter and Ronnie Corbett, who have both graced the London stage, though are best known for their screen performances.
Marcus Davey, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the Camden’s Roundhouse since 1999, is given an OBE for his services to drama, as is Sarah Weir, Head of Arts and Cultural Strategy for the Olympic Delivery Authority, who receives her honour for services to the arts.
Actor Harewood, whose most recent London stage outings include Welcome To Thebes at the National Theatre and the Olivier Award-winning The Mountaintop, in which he played Martin Luther King, is given the MBE for services to drama, while Lyndie Wright, co-founder of Islington’s Little Angel theatre, receives the same honour for services to puppetry.
