Director Jamie Lloyd, whose productions of Macbeth and The Hothouse have been incredible hits as part of the Trafalgar Transformed season, is to direct a secret show at the St James theatre.
Lloyd, who is also due to direct The Commitments at the Palace theatre later this year, has had his name added to the website of the project that is shrouded in mystery. All that is known about the production is that it will play at the venue, which opened only last year, from 21 February until 3 May 2014.
The show, known only as UGC London, has taken the unusual route of putting tickets on sale before much has been revealed, with ticket prices rising the later into the campaign theatregoers book.
Speaking about the project to Time Out, Lloyd, who is also yet to release the next production in his season of shows at the Trafalgar Studios, said: “I am really excited to be involved in a production that is doing something so different in its approach to marketing. When people find out what the production is, they will understand why we have used this idea. In a way, it mirrors the themes and storyline of the piece. The idea is to release information about the show gradually over the coming weeks, so watch this space.”
Little more can be gleaned from the cryptic website, which, in addition to Lloyd’s name and the ticket prices, features a water tower, a landscape of cracked earth, a rabbit and a countdown, ticking away the seconds until the next smidgeon of information will be released.
While interest and intrigue is building around UGC London, the Victoria venue is currently hosting the acclaimed Northern Broadside’s production of Rutherford And Son, which runs until the end of this month when it will be replaced by the Theatre Royal Bath’s production of The American Plan.
