Belinda Lang is to join Matthew Kelly in World War One drama Forgotten Voices, which runs at Riverside Studios from 30 May-7 July (press night 1 June).
Lang is well known for playing housewife Bill in the 90s sitcom about family life, 2Point4Children. She was last on stage in London in Noel Coward’s Hay Fever at the Haymarket last year, and her extensive stage credits include What The Butler Saw at the Criterion, Dead Funny and Life X 3 at the Savoy, The Secret Rapture at the Lyric, Present Laughter at the Vaudeville, Hobson’s Choice at the Haymarket, Antigone at the National and Mrs Klein at the Apollo. She frequently stars in touring productions, including Private Lives and My Boy Jack, which she co-produced with actor/writer David Haig.
In Forgotten Voices, Lang takes the role of Kitty, joining Kelly who plays Harris. Also confirmed in the cast are Steven Crossley (Haynes), Rupert Frazer (Newton) and Tim Woodward (Todd).
Adapted for the stage by Malcolm McKay, Forgotten Voices is based on historian Max Arthur’s non-fiction book Forgotten Voices Of The Great War, a compilation of original witness statements taken from people who lived through World War One as given to researchers at the Imperial War Museum in the 1960s. A powerful distillation of these witness statements, the play centres on five characters who recall the elation, fear and suffering experienced during this catastrophic era.
