An incredible 36 shows will take part in this year’s Kids Week, our annual kids go free ticket promotion which, following 2015’s record-breaking year, returns for the whole month of August.
Now in its 19th year, Kids Week has become one of London theatre’s most anticipated annual events and has introduced hundreds of thousands of young people to the magic of the stage.
2016 will once again offer families the chance to experience a staggering wealth of West End entertainment spanning world famous long-running musicals, Olivier Award-winning plays, family classics and acclaimed dance.
For those new to Kids Week, the deal is both simple and brilliant. For every ticket you buy for a participating show, you’ll receive one children’s ticket free for anyone aged 16 or younger, plus the chance to purchase up to a further two children’s tickets half-price. As always, there are no booking, postage or transaction fees.
To help make your choice of participating Kids Week shows as easy as possible, we’ve grouped them into suggested age suitability from the very youngest of Kids Week goers ready to head to the deep dark wood to teenagers looking to explore dystopian futures.
Starting from the littlest of theatregoers, The Gruffalo and The Tiger Who Came To Tea fall into the under-five group, with ages five plus bursting with options including Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Disney’s The Lion King, Horrible Histories – The Best Of Barmy Britain, James And The Giant Peach, Mamma Mia!, Matilda The Musical, The Secret Garden, Stomp, The Railway Children and That’s Entertainment.
Seven pluses can choose from musicals The Bodyguard, Bugsy Malone, Guys And Dolls – which will star Hollywood favourite Rebel Wilson until 21 August – Les Misérables, The Phantom Of The Opera, Show Boat, Thriller Live and Wicked, alongside Impossible, The Mousetrap, The Play That Goes Wrong and Vamos Cuba!.
Falling into the parental guidance category are 1984, American Idiot, The Comedy About A Bank Robbery, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, The Go-Between, Hobson’s Choice, In The Heights, Jersey Boys, Kinky Boots, Little Shop Of Horrors and The Woman In Black.
Alongside the ticket offer, Kids Week also gives children the chance to experience theatre from completely unique perspectives with a series of free workshops, events, Q&As and backstage tours running alongside the promotion.
This year, ticket holders can take advantage of a whole host of activities from having tea with The Gruffalo in the deep dark wood to learning choreography with Beautiful – The Carole King Musical. Magic fans will have the chance to learn the art of illusion from the stars of Impossible or go backstage with 1984.
