The 15th Kids Week has smashed all its own records before it has even officially begun.
Our annual promotion, which runs throughout August and is part of the London 2012 Festival, has already sold more than 75,000 tickets, eclipsing 2011’s previous record total of 73,426, and still has many more tickets available.
The news follows the unprecedented success of the opening day of Kids Week sales, when 42,232 tickets were snapped up by excited parents and guardians.
Kids Week is an annual initiative aimed at encouraging youngsters to experience the magic that live theatre offers. As part of the scheme, one child can go to a participating show for free when they are accompanied by a full paying adult. A further two children per transaction can also go for half price.
The fantastic family-friendly scheme is run by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), the organisation behind Official London Theatre, and supported by Ticketmaster, whose Managing Director Chris Edmonds said: “This is the 15th year Kids Week has been running and incredibly in this year of the London Olympics we continue to see all past records being broken. The popularity continues to grow and grow each year and it looks set to be the biggest and most successful year yet. It makes a key contribution to the London and wider UK theatre and arts sector, by encouraging young people to experience live theatre and start a passion that can last a life time and we’re proud to be a part of that.”
In 2012, for the first time, Kids Week is running for an entire month, giving parents and children four weeks to take advantage of the incredible offer to see some of London’s famous world-leading productions. There’s also the chance to learn more about the capital’s shows, with a host of workshops and activities also available.
Julian Bird, Chief Executive of SOLT, commented: “This is an incredible achievement for Kids Week and a sign that families are eager to travel to London this August to see a show. Every single West End theatre is programmed over the summer and we look forward to welcoming thousands of excited families to see the huge variety of shows on offer.”
