Kids Week in the West End proved more popular in 2010 than ever before, selling more tickets, running longer and offering more children a chance to experience London theatre.
The annual festival of all things family-friendly on the London stage sold over 68,000 tickets, smashing the previous year’s total by nearly 17,000 tickets.
Kids Week 2010 proved so popular, in fact, that for the first time ever the decision was made to extend the event from a fortnight of youthful fun to three weeks, taking the festivities up until the end of the school holidays on 3 September.
Kids Week, now in its 13th year, offers one free child’s theatre ticket with every full paying adult, and also offers the option of two more half-price kids tickets. An impressive collection of London’s hit shows take part – a total of 34 productions in 2010 – not just by offering free tickets, but also by hosting events and activities giving interested children an even more intimate and memorable encounter with London’s theatre scene. Activities in 2010 included a cha-cha boot camp with the cast of Burn The Floor, a drama workshop with Les Misérables and a ghost story session with The Woman In Black.
Emma De Souza, Development Manager for the Society of London Theatre which runs Kids Week, commented: “We are delighted with the ongoing success of Kids Week and incredibly grateful to everyone involved for their participation and generous support, including producers, cast, crew and theatre staff. The feedback we have received from parents and children has been incredible.”
