The Lyric Hammersmith is embracing the great British summer weather with its Summer Party on Saturday 7 July, which takes the theme of water.
The day-long event, from 10:30-17:00, features free interactive shows, workshops, live music, roaming circus acts and other events for all the family, taking place all over the theatre and around Lyric Square. David Harradine, director of And The Rain Falls Down, which recently had a sell-out run at the Lyric Hammersmith, curates the day and will be encouraging everyone to participate in the watery goings-on.
Highlights in Lyric Square include: larger-than-life raindrops that have stopped in the sky; the chance to enter a life-sized whale and see a show by Talking Birds, performed for one audience member at a time; a mass Umbrella Dance and a Stormy Weather sing-along. DJ Charlie Dark will be playing some tunes to chill out and dance to, or sing your own tune by joining the water angels in The Singing Pool as part of Sing London.
Theatrical events taking place include Tiddalick, for ages 3-7, which tells the story of a greedy frog who likes to drink all the rivers and the seas of the land when he is grumpy; and puppet show Shoe Baby, for ages 2-6, about a baby who takes to the sea, air and the zoo, all in a shoe.
The Lyric Hammersmith Artistic Director David Farr will be getting in on the action by holding a masterclass workshop, one of several interactive workshops for ages 4-16+. Others include a clowning and mask workshop surrounding the theatre’s newly announced Christmas show Beauty And The Beast, and a performance poetry workshop based on Simon Schama’s bestseller Rough Crossings, another show in the Lyric’s new season.
