Rising musical theatre star Cassidy Janson is to become the latest resident of Avenue Q when she replaces Julie Atherton in the puckish puppet musical from 5 October.

Janson, whose previous credits include the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Tick Tick Boom and Wicked, in which she covered and appeared in the lead role of Elphaba, takes on the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy The Slut which Atherton originated for the UK production.

Avenue Q is the tale of Princeton, a graduate trying to find his way in life with only a BA in English. When he finds himself moving to the eponymous street, he meets a host of characters who help bring purpose to his life.

When it first opened in the West End in 2006, Avenue Q’s blend of puppets, actors and decidedly irreverent humour made it an instant hit. Having announced that it would close at the Noël Coward theatre in March 2009, the show received so much support that it reopened at the Gielgud theatre three months later in June.

Janson joins a cast that also includes former I’d Do Anything contestant Daniel Boys, West End regular Joanna Ampil, Rachel Jerram and Mark Goldthorp.
