Indira Varma will lead the cast of the Hampstead Theatre’s forthcoming production of Tiger Country when the hospital-set drama returns to the Swiss Cottage venue next month.
Nina Raine’s acclaimed play, which transports audiences to a busy A&E department in the run-up to Christmas, will play from 8 December to 17 January following a sell-out success at the venue in 2011.
Games Of Thrones and Luther star Varma returns to the London stage following recent performances in Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare’s Globe and the Trafalgar Transformed production of The Hothouse. The actress will take to the stage in Tiger Country prior to her performance opposite Ralph Fiennes in Man And Superman at the National Theatre next February.
Varma is joined in the production by her Moses Jones co-stars Shaun Parkes and Wunmi Mosaku, stars on the original 2011 production of Tiger Country, Tricia Kelly and Ruth Everett, Nick Hendrix, whose credits include the NT’s The Light Princess, and Jenny Galloway, who is due to appear in the film adaptation of the National’s London Road.

Set during one of the busiest times of the year for London hospitals, Tiger Country is an action-packed drama about an overburdened service that we all depend on and the dedicated individuals that keep it going.
Exploring themes of professionalism and prejudice, ambition and failure, the drama is directed by the show’s playwright Raine, who returns to the Hampstead Theatre following her work on William Boyd’s Longing in 2013.
Tiger Country will open following the run of Roy Williams’ police drama Wildefire, starring Lorraine Stanley, which begins previews tonight.
