At a press event last week, East Is East director Sam Yates gave little away about the forthcoming production of Ayub Khan Din’s comedy drama.
Yates talked of the set being ‘non-literal’ and wanting to keep all eyes on the actors, which only made us even more intrigued for the show’s opening at the Trafalgar Studio 1 next month.
We were glad, then, when Marc Brenner’s photographs from the rehearsal room arrived in our inbox this morning, brightening up our Monday and giving away just a little bit more of what to expect from the revival starring Jane Horrocks.
The semi-autobiographical tale, which also stars the show’s playwright as Pakistani chip shop owner George ‘Genghis’ Khan who struggles to give his children a strict Muslim upbringing in 1970s Salford, is the first Trafalgar Transformed production not to be directed by the season’s pioneer Jamie Lloyd.
Take a look at the gallery above to see how Yates and his cast are getting along as they prepare for the show’s upcoming run in the presence of a couple of striking sofas.
