Half a century after the Profumo Affair rocked the political world, Stephen Ward, the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on its scandalous tale, prepared to hit the West End with a launch bringing together the production’s cast and creative team.
With the addition of one very special guest Mandy Rice-Davies, who had a real-life part in the Profumo Affair and will be played in the forthcoming musical by newcomer Charlotte Blackledge, the event at The Box in Soho featured performances of four songs that are soon to be belted out by a cast that also includes Alexander Hanson, Charlotte Spencer, Anthony Calf, Joanna Riding and Daniel Flynn at the Aldwych theatre.
Featuring a book and lyrics by Christopher Hampton and Don Black, the musical tells the story of English osteopath Ward and how, after introducing model Christine Keeler to British MP John Profumo, he became a scapegoat for one of the most sensational political scandals of the 20th century.
Theatre fans will have to wait just over two months to see the musical in all its glory, but until then let our launch gallery sate your appetite with images of the production’s onstage and offstage stars at the exclusive event.
